An NOV application to host a DV access point has been submitted to the ETCC and we are hopeful of a positive outcome very soon. This will be the first GMSK node in North Wales. We have had discussions with the suppliers and once frequencies have been allocated we can have the equipment within a few days. The system has been well researched and we are confident of a smooth install.
At last all you frustrated D-Star radio owners will be able to connect! For those of you that don’t have a D-Star rig, NWRS have decided to install one in the club shack which will be available for members to stick their toe in the D-Star water!
Keep an eye on the website for an install date soon.
Exciting news! Looks like 2011 is off to a good start.
This is excellent news! My home QTH is Anglesey and I am QRV on D-Star or DV mode only when I’m operating mobile outside the North Wales area.
It’s a great mode with a lot to offer, either simplex or via a repeater or node – and with GPS position reporting via APRS and messaging with D-RATS, for example, there’s more than just voice in the whole package!
Well done to all concerned and many thanks indeed!
Well Rob, thanks for the vote of confidence, now how about you grab an application form from the ETCC and host the first DV node on Anglesey?? (-:
Excellent news! I was nearly going to sell my 2820 too – I’ll be keeping it now!
Hey Kev,
I monitor GB7WP (Wirral) and GB7WC (Warrington) as well as 144.6125 (DV calling channel) most evenings. Alex 2W0GIX is also active on D-Star locally and there are more and more stations appearing recently. Once the DV Gateway is up and running, a few local stations have expressed interest in aquiring DV kit.

To be honest, the radio is in it’s box at the moment and hasn’t been used for months, I’ve been too busy with work.
I’ve unsuccesfullly tried to get WP from the QTH – I haven’t tried with the new mast up, I’d have more chance with it at full height, need to get the 70cm yagi on there!
I’ll try and find some time and give you a call 🙂
I monitor all the frequencies by the Lancaster repeater is best for me.
