2010 NORTH WALES RADIO RALLY

The 24th North Wales Radio Rally was held over the weekend of 30 & 31 October 2010. This was our third year at Ysgol John Bright School. The 2010 rally was once again officially opened by the RSGB President, Dave Wilson MOOBW. This year we have built on the success of 2008 and 2009. We welcomed some new traders as well as many familiar faces. We achieved a balanced mix of traders selling new rigs and equipment, aerials, components, computer hardware, software and much more. There were also many items of vintage radio equipment and military kit. The RSGB were in attendance as were many local clubs selling surplus equipment. Our most successful Bring & Buy stall to date was busy all over the weekend. The number of people attending was significantly up on last year. The raffles were very popular, many thanks to all the traders who kindly donated prizes.

Tony MW0BXJ, NWRS Treasurer, has prepared a preliminary set of rally accounts. Despite Conwy County Council’s 35% rental increase for the school this year (thanks for that!), we managed to streamline costs by the grand sum of £3.17! With a 100% take up on tables, revenue increased by 23% and a greater footfall produced a 21% rise on last year. The bring and buy whose concept we completely revised for 2010, showed an increase on last year of a staggering 103% ! Collectively, this years rally shows an increase of 56%. This is an incredible achievement of which all members and friends who gave up their time and worked hard should be proud.

Big thanks to Liz GW0ETU whose hard work throughout the year and dedication to the cause ensured that everything ran smoothly accross the weekend. Thanks also to Liz’s family who travelled the length of the country to offer their help as they do every year. Thanks to the NWRS members and friends who gave their precious time and effort once again. A very big thanks to Ken Parry whose accountancy skills ensured that the extremely busy, ney hectic Bring & Buy ran like clockwork! A final thanks go to Gordon MW0GBR whose cullinary skills in the caravan kitchen kept our hunger at bay.

We will be back on the weekend of 29 & 30 October 2011. See you there!
