On Monday the 31st of May 2010, club members will be activating the SOTA summit of Tal Y Fan, which is located at the northern end of Snowdonia National Park. We will start the walk to the summit at 10:00am, and will be set up and ready to call CQ at 11:00am. A map to the parking location is provided below or can be found here. All members of the club are welcome to attend. SOTA is an exciting part of the hobby, it is surprising how far your signal can propagate on 2m SSB when you have some height beneath you. No need to bring any kit with you, although a 2m handy may be a good idea (if you want to bring a nice portable rig feel free), as well as suitable clothing for walking.
The plan is to activate on both 2m and 70cm, SSB, FM, and AM (most likely sked the AM contacts via FM), also 40m, and 20m SSB. If you can’t make it, be sure to listen out for us on the bands.
Any members taking part in the walk please note we will use 145.275 FM for communication on the ground, and on route.

I’ll certainly be there, who else is coming?
Weather permitting I’ll be there with the clubs FT690 and a battery. I may have to ride over on the bike. I’m sure Mark said he was going too.
Well I quite enjoyed that. The trek wasn’t easy but the view was worth it and 6m was entertaining. I’m looking forward to the next outing.
