70cms RSGB Contest

Members set up a station for the RSGB 70cm contest on Tuesday evening. The idea was a trial run with the new equipment from the caravan. The aerials were erected, rotator set up, generator connected and as the temperature had dropped a fair bit, the heating in the van was turned on. We were up and running with hot tea in time for the 8 0′clock start. What a difference the van made, we operated in comfort, well lit and very warm with all facilities on board. As we had parked by the beach we didn’t expect too much sucess, the objective was to test the setup and van, however we were pleasantly suprised at the number of squares worked. We operated until 10pm and it took around 15 minutes to dismantle the station. Next time we will put a few hundred meters beneath us and climb to the top of the leaderboard !
