March 11th Meeting [2010 EGM]

Tonight’s meeting began with a summary of the week’s events. Members were assured that the website outage will not happen again, the issue is now resolved permanently. We have received  another cash donation, the generosity of our members seems never ending, it is very much appreciated. Membership has increased again, we must be doing something right!

After striving to get the club back on the map (see photo above), we were delighted to learn that our recent special event station is featured on the front cover of April’s Practical Wireless Magazine. All those who have worked tirelessly for the good of the club, should be very proud of this achievement.

Surprise surprise, GB3LL is still off air despite assurances that it would be restored to service in February. Letters to the Repeater group, Ofcom and the RSGB ETCC committee have proved fruitless. Despite trying very hard to prompt some action, I’m afraid that when you consider who is involved, the chance of success is negligible. Those in charge are too far away to even hear it so it’s hardly a surprise that they have left it dilapidated for years and off air for the last 8 months. We tried !!!

On the matter of the EGM, Gordon MW0GBR ran through several points regarding progress that the club is making. A brief  show of hands confirmed 100% of members in attendance support current progress.

After discussing points raised by two members, and with overwhelming support, a vote was taken with 21 in favour, 0 against and 0 abstentions. The motion was unanimously carried and the new constitution is currently being prepared for printing and distribution to all club members.

The meeting was closed.

We have agreed to a further two special event stations, the first to be held in Caernarfon on the 15th May, the second in Tan Lan on the field adjacent to the club on Sunday 30th May. Volunteers required please.

Finally, the new radio equipment was displayed for members to peruse. With all outstanding club business attended to, we are free to concentrate on setting up the shack and preparing our aerials, work begins next week, make sure you attend and lend a hand, tea and biscuits provided!

We have been granted permission for permanent VHF / UHF aerial installations at the club which is most welcome news. We are also pleased to hear that wireless broadband will be available at the club very soon.
